How Rhode Island ZIP Codes Map Across Cities and Counties
Rhode Island ZIP Codes may span more than one city or county, and some cities span more than one county. Our dataset lists each ZIP Code with the city and county where people most often live and pay rent. Those city and county names are reference labels only. The ZIP Code itself remains the geographic unit for ZIP-level rent data. This makes average rent and other ZIP-level housing data easier to find and compare, without implying that the entire ZIP Code lies inside one city or one county.
Because Rhode Island postal boundaries do not always follow local government lines, our data mapping assigns each ZIP Code to its most representative residential community and county location to help renters and landlords easily contextualize market rates.
For HUD Small Area Fair Market Rents (SAFMR), we keep HUD's own geographic classifications separate from the city and county labels used on this page. A ZIP Code can fall in more than one HUD Fair Market Rent Area. The HUD Area Code and HUD Fair Market Rent Area Name should not be treated as the same thing as the city or county shown next to that ZIP Code.
